This is an illustrated book of the Bible in Vulgate. The Biblia Sacra was published in 1969 by Rizzoli of Rome. The lithographs are on a heavy paper and are signed in the plate. The Biblia Sacra lithographs were produced as illustrations for a new edition of the Bible. The Biblia Sacra suite consists of 105 color mixed-technique lithographs after 105 watercolor paintings created by Dali between 1963 and 1964. The Biblia Sacra works are a combination of offset lithography, continuous tone lithography, serigraphy (silkscreening) with application of varnishes and metallic inks. The works were “printed” on a heavy stock designed specifically to hold up to the various techniques used. Quality craftsmanship and artistry are evident in every Biblia Sacra work. The unique combination of multiple printing techniques gives these illustrations a richness and depth that resulted in works that are exceptionally true to the original paintings.

  • Book of Tobit, Tobit 11:13

The passage "And immediately Tobit recovered his sight" appears in the Book of Tobit after the miraculous healing of Tobit, who had been blind for many years. The story is part of the larger narrative of the angel Raphael’s role in guiding Tobias to retrieve a family treasure and ultimately heal his father, Tobit. After Tobias follows Raphael's guidance and uses the heart, liver, and gall of a fish to heal his father, Tobit's sight is restored in a moment of divine intervention. This marks a key moment of healing and redemption in the story.

    Here is the specific passage:

“And immediately Tobit recovered his sight, and Tobias went to him. And they embraced, and wept. And Tobit said, ‘Blessed be God, and praised be his great name, and blessed be all his holy angels. May his holy name be praised throughout all the ages!’”

This moment of recovery is celebrated as a miraculous act of God, highlighting the themes of faith, redemption, and divine healing. Tobit’s vision is restored, not only physically but spiritually, as he praises God for His grace and mercy.

    Dalí’s Interpretation in Sacra Biblia
In Dalí’s interpretation, the painting would be filled with surreal imagery that highlights the divine power and timelessness of the healing. Eyes, light, and flowing forms would symbolize both the physical and spiritual recovery of Tobit, while the landscape would reflect the mystical and otherworldly nature of the event. The use of abstract symbolism would suggest that this moment is not only a miraculous healing but also a profound spiritual awakening.
