This is an illustrated book of the Bible in Vulgate. The Biblia Sacra was published in 1969 by Rizzoli of Rome. The lithographs are on a heavy paper and are signed in the plate. The Biblia Sacra lithographs were produced as illustrations for a new edition of the Bible. The Biblia Sacra suite consists of 105 color mixed-technique lithographs after 105 watercolor paintings created by Dali between 1963 and 1964. The Biblia Sacra works are a combination of offset lithography, continuous tone lithography, serigraphy (silkscreening) with application of varnishes and metallic inks. The works were “printed” on a heavy stock designed specifically to hold up to the various techniques used. Quality craftsmanship and artistry are evident in every Biblia Sacra work. The unique combination of multiple printing techniques gives these illustrations a richness and depth that resulted in works that are exceptionally true to the original paintings.

BIBLIA SACRA 73

$4,750.00Prix
  • It refers to a significant event described in the Book of Daniel, specifically in Daniel 3:28, which recounts the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into the fiery furnace by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar for refusing to worship an idol he had set up. When they are cast into the flames, they are miraculously unharmed, and a divine figure, interpreted as an angel, is seen with them in the fire, protecting them.

    Biblical Passage: Daniel 3:28 (KJV)
"Then Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God."

In this passage, King Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges that it was the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent an angel to protect them from the fiery furnace, demonstrating God's power to save His faithful servants from harm.

    Dalí’s Interpretation in Sacra Biblia
In Dalí’s surrealist interpretation, he would depict the fiery furnace as a distorted and chaotic force, with the angel representing divine protection and intervention. The angel would be portrayed with ethereal and abstract forms, symbolizing the transcendent power of God’s intervention. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would be shown as unscathed and calm amidst the flames, emphasizing the miraculous nature of the event. Dalí’s use of cosmic imagery, light vs. dark, and surreal elements would emphasize the victory of divine power over earthly destruction, illustrating the miracle of divine protection through the lens of surrealism and dreamlike symbolism.
