2 Chronicles 34:28-30
“Your eyes will see the king’s eyes, and you will be at rest. You will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and those who live here.’”
They took her answer back to the king. Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. He went up to the temple of the Lord, with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites—all the people, from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord.”
This passage speaks of King Josiah of Judah, who reigned during a time of spiritual renewal and reform. The prophetess Huldah prophesied that Josiah would die in peace and be gathered to his ancestors in the mausoleum of his fathers. Josiah’s reforms were centered around the recovery of the Book of the Law and the renewal of worship at the temple. This passage also refers to Josiah’s peaceful death, a death that would not witness the calamities that would later befall his people.
Dalí’s Interpretation in Sacra Biblia
In Dalí’s interpretation, " the scene would likely blend surrealism, symbolism, and religious reverence, exploring the legacy and transcendence of Josiah’s life and death. Through dream-like imagery, Dalí would convey the timeless impact of Josiah’s reign and the peaceful nature of his final moments.
